Don't really have time to blog for this few weeks.
Have been busy doing some part time event work with
ESN Asia Management
Last week event was
Inter primary school swimming competition
It was held at Toa Payoh swimming complex...
I was the time keeper for Lane 6.
Although they had a fully automated touch board system in place (like those in the Olympic)
We were needed there to do the manual timing, as an back up in case the system screwed up
I was suppose to use the stopwatch and the clicker to take timming.
the clicker goes off together with the buzz, the system will start the timing
and then stop with the clicker was pressed...
the stopwatch is fully manual, so human errors and reaction time is to be expected....
I was so accurate that I had about 5-6 timing exactly same as the touch board timing (1-100 of a sec)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was during the 4 x 50m freestyle Girls.
I placed my clicker on the dive board stand,
and then there was this little girl, she turned around and call "UNCLE"
"UNCLE can you remove the thing there"
excuses me
UNCLE?
I gave a shock look, but didn't say a word or made any movement
because I know if I did anything, I would have admit and become the UNCLE.
the senior beside me reacted with a laugh, and then help the little girl
Lucky he helped me out of this awkward situation, or else I wouldn't even care...

Swimming is a really competitive sport
Not only you have to execute the correct stroke and powerful enough
they must change/end it correctly, some strokes requires both palm on the
wall to make it count.
It's really disheartening to see some of the kids got disqualified because of
this minor minor mistakes, but mostly of those were from neighborhood schools
which didn't have a private pool and couldn't afford a proper coach for them,
some of the kids looks as if they have just graduated from swimming classes.
some look as if they didn't know what's going on.
some of them looks like born to be Champion that kind,
they have long and thin torso just like "Michael Phelps",
and also a six packs abs that a fat guy would envy.
how could our neighborhood schools compete
against those human fish?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The most disheartening is to see a
first position finishing becomes
disqualified because of something beyond her control during her swim.
Her
(swimmer) father caused her a disqualification!!!
HOW?
the father was shouting and pacing along the pool side during the competition,
which was not allowed and was announced a few times through the PA system
the side line referee gave him a early warning the first time,
he reacted angrily and swings his fist down then continues to do so,
this time the referee couldn't bare any longer and had her disqualified.
that father came back to the control room repeatedly,
each time he came back the sadder and more regrets he looked
but he still couldn't change the fate the HE cause her daughter to DQ
even with the help of the people in the control room, the judge decisions was FINAL...
It was the finals, she could have gotten FIRST!!!
but it was her Father who destroy her first place Title.
all the hard work going down the LONGKANG
(drain)
I will hate my Father for a very long time, if I was her.....
